A. Issue
According to City Code 15.02.100, no person, firm or corporation shall at any time between the hours of seven p.m. and seven a.m. Monday through Saturday, or during any hours on Sunday create any loud or sharp noises, concussions, or disturbing sounds associated with the construction, excavation, demolition, alteration, or repair of any building or development. The board of public works may modify these times upon request for variance and based on exceptional circumstances.
The purpose of this request is to make this sanitary connection during off peak hours on Watertown Plank Road in order to minimize impacts to the traveling public.
B. Background/Options
On the weekend starting June 5th, 2026, Walbec Group is planning to install a sanitary sewer connection in eastbound Watertown Plank Road just east of N. 95th Street. This proposed sanitary sewer connection will serve the Milwaukee Regional Medical Campus. The plans for this work and the required traffic control are attached. The work would start on a Friday evening with the sanitary connection work to occur over night on Friday. The concrete pavement would be restored on Saturday with enough time to cure so that the required traffic control in Watertown Plank Road can be removed prior to the Monday rush hour. If inclement weather is predicted, the applicant is planning to use the weekend of June 12-14, 2026 as an alternate.
The applicant has obtained all of the necessary permitting and coordinated with WisDOT on the required traffic control that will be within the freeway off ramp to eastbound Watertown Plank Road.
C. Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)
Priority Area One: Economic Development & Financial Resilience
D. Fiscal Impact
No impact to the City of Wauwatosa
E. Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the request.
