A. Issue
The Wauwatosa School District requests a short-term parking zone for visitors and additional long-term parking for staff and visitors of McKinley Elementary School.
B. Background/Options
Parking is currently prohibited on school days from 7:30am to 4:30pm along the west side of 89th Street from 119-feet to 206-feet and 288-feet to 348-feet south of Wright Street. In an effort to make parking along the school easier for school visitors during the school day, the Wauwatosa School District has requested that the City revise parking in these areas to prohibit parking on school days from 7:30am to 9:00am, allow 1-hour parking on school days from 9:00am to 2:00pm, and prohibit parking on school days from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.
In addition, parking is currently prohibited on school days from 7:30am to 4:30pm along the east side of 90th Street from 205-feet to 275-feet south of Wright Street, and is handicap accessible-only parking along the east side of 90th Street from 275-feet to 335-feet south of Wright Street. In an effort to increase parking for staff and long-term visitors, the Wauwatosa School District has requested that the City eliminate parking restrictions in these areas.
Staff proposes the following 90-day parking trial.
• Prohibit parking on school days from 7:30am to 9:00am, allow 1-hour parking on school days from 9:00am to 2:00pm, and prohibit parking on school days from 2:00pm to 4:30pm along the west side of 89th Street from 119-feet to 206-feet and 288-feet to 348-feet south of Wright Street.
• Eliminate parking restrictions along the east side of 90th Street from 275-feet to 335-feet south of Wright Street.
The 90-day trial will commence if approved by the Transportation Affairs Committee. The item will return to the Transportation Affairs Committee upon completion of the 90-day trial.

D. Fiscal Impact
Minor expenses for in-house creation and installation of signs as well as removal of existing signs where applicable. Existing sign budget will accommodate these expenses.
E. Recommendation
Direct staff to initiate a 90-day trial to modify parking restrictions on the west side of 89th Street from 119-feet to 206-feet and 288-feet to 348-feet south of Wright Street and to eliminate parking on the east side of 90th Street from 205-feet to 335-feet south of Wright Street, as described in Part B.
