A.                     Issue

Intersection skew leads to poor sight distance at the 117th Street intersection with Gilbert Avenue

B.                     Background/Options

The 117th Street approaches to Gilbert Avenue are currently stop controlled. Gilbert Avenue is uncontrolled and intersects with 117th Street at a skew. The skew leads to difficulty for 117th Street drivers to see oncoming traffic.

Due to the poor sight distance, all-way stop control is recommended at the 117th Street intersection with Gilbert Avenue.

C.                     Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)

Priority 2: Public Safety, Goal 2. Proactively address pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular safety.

D.                     Fiscal Impact

Minor costs for installation of stop signs to be covered by sign budget.

E.                     Recommendation

Recommend the Common Council approve a resolution to install all-way stop control at the 117th Street intersection with Gilbert Avenue.
