A. Issue
On-street parking impacts maintenance and operations within the alley located between 89th Street and 90th Street
B. Background/Options
Parking is currently unrestricted on Stickney Avenue. In July, the Transportation Affairs Committee approved a 90-day trial to prohibit parking on Thursday and Fridays from 7:00am to 3:00pm on the north side of Stickney Avenue from 68-feet west of 89th Street to 153-feet west of 89th Street.
The Committee may recall that an alley intersects Stickney Avenue from the south approximately halfway between 89th Street and 90th Street. The alley has no outlet. When vehicles are parked on the north side of Stickney across from the alley, there is insufficient space for turning movements, which limits access for garbage collection trucks, snow plows and other maintenance and operations vehicles.
Engineering staff recommends making permanent the changes from the trial.
C. Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)
N/A
D. Fiscal Impact
Minor expenses for the installation of signs. The existing sign budget will accommodate these expenses.
E. Recommendation
Direct staff to prepare for the Common Council an ordinance to prohibit parking on Thursdays and Fridays from 7:00am to 3:00pm on the north side of Stickney Avenue from 68 feet west of 89th Street to 153 feet west of 89th Street.
