A. Issue
The City of Wauwatosa must adopt the 2025 Milwaukee County Hazard Mitigation Plan to gain full FEMA approval and remain eligible for federal hazard mitigation funding.
B. Background/Options
Milwaukee County collaborated with local municipalities and emergency management partners to update the plan, which outlines regional hazards and strategies to reduce risk. FEMA has confirmed that the plan meets federal requirements, but each jurisdiction must adopt it for full approval. Adoption is also necessary for the City to remain eligible for FEMA mitigation programs, including HMGP, HMGP Post-Fire, BRIC, Flood Mitigation Assistance, and the Safeguarding Tomorrow Revolving Loan Fund.
C. Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)
Adopting the plan will help Wauwatosa protect public safety, improve infrastructure, and stay resilient against hazards.
D. Fiscal Impact
No immediate cost but allows the City to pursue FEMA mitigation funding, which can reduce disaster recovery expenses.
E. Recommendation
Adopt the 2025 Milwaukee County Hazard Mitigation Plan to meet FEMA requirements.
