Resolution to approve an intergovernmental agreement establishing a joint fire department between West Allis and Wauwatosa

WHEREAS, the Cities of West Allis and Wauwatosa have worked closely together to create a joint fire department to provide fire protection and emergency medical services to their communities; and
WHEREAS, each city will benefit from a joint fire department through lower operating costs than if they remained separate, new opportunities to obtain grant funding, and a more flexible financing structure; and
WHEREAS, by forming a joint fire department, the cities will maintain or improve on their exceptional fire and EMS service;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Wauwatosa, in the State of Wisconsin, that the attached intergovernmental agreement is approved, and the named officials shall execute and process the agreement and any related documents.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city attorney is authorized to adjust the estimated 2025 Total Costs to provide fire protection and emergency services by entering the final cost calculated by the finance departments of both communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the city attorney is authorized to make non-substantive changes to the attached document to effectuate the intent of the agreement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that city staff is authorized to continue working with the City of West Allis to apply for the Innovation Grant by March 31, 2026, and for all other work needed to create and implement the joint fire department as outlined in the intergovernmental agreement.
