A. Issue
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) will be repaving a portion of State Hwy 100. For the section between Congress Street and Fiebrantz Avenue, the DOT asked if we would like to maintain the ability to park along the west side of Hwy 100.
B. Background/Options
The current regulations of that area state no parking from 6-9 am and 3-6 pm. If we wanted to maintain the ability to park in that lane, we would be responsible for 100% of the cost to repave, approximately $72,000 according to the DOT, and would in turn assess the property owners. If we no longer wish to maintain the ability to park along Hwy 100, the cost to repave would be the responsibility of the DOT.
We mailed out surveys to the property owners who would be most impacted by the removal of the parking lane to gather their feedback. Twenty-eight property owners were mailed surveys and seven surveys were filled out and returned. Of those seven surveys, six property owners would rather lose the parking lane than be assessed for the cost of the paving.
C. Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)
N/A
D. Fiscal Impact
If the parking changes are approved, minor expenses for in-house creation and replacement of no parking signs.
E. Recommendation
Initiate a 90-day trial of regulations changing to “no parking” for the area outlined in Section A.
