Resolution approving an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management EMS Division for Emergency Medical Services (2026-2031)

WHEREAS, the City of Wauwatosa Fire Department provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as part of a coordinated countywide system administered by the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management EMS Division; and

 

WHEREAS, the City previously entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Milwaukee County in 2017 to participate in this system; and

 

WHEREAS, under the terms of the IGA, Milwaukee County provides essential services, including funding, training, continuing education, quality assurance, and medical direction, including access to physician oversight for field personnel; and

 

WHEREAS, participation in the countywide EMS system ensures compliance with state licensure requirements for paramedics and EMTs, including required continuing education; and

 

WHEREAS, the proposed agreement represents a continuation of the existing arrangement with no significant changes and has been reviewed and approved as to form by the City Attorney;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Wauwatosa that the City staff are hereby authorized to execute an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management EMS Division for participation in the countywide EMS system for the period of 2026 through 2031; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City staff are authorized to take all necessary and appropriate actions to implement the terms of the agreement.
