Consideration of approval of the 2024 Board of Public Works Meeting Calendar

A. Background/Rationale
For the last few years, the Common Council has been approving the next year's meeting schedule. For 2024 the Council approved their schedule with changes that affect the Board of Public Works meeting schedule. Board of Public Works meetings normally meet twice per month on the Mondays before the first and third Tuesdays.
B. Key Issues for Consideration
Approving a calendar ahead of time will allow various departments to schedule deadline of applications for Board of Public Works (BPW)-related approvals. A calendar also allows members, applicants, and the general public know when meetings will occur.
When the Council approved their meeting calendar, they made several changes, including several cancellations of regular meetings. The changes that may affect the BPW meeting schedule include the following:
1. The January 2 Council meeting has been cancelled.
2. The April 2 Council meeting has been cancelled.
3. The August 6 Council meeting has been moved to July 30.
4. The September 3 Council meeting has been cancelled.
In addition, there are several holidays that fall on a Monday. This proposal does the following:
1. Cancels the first meeting of January. This would normally fall on January 1, which is New Year's Day. The Council meeting this week has been cancelled.
2. Moved the January 15 meeting to January 16 to accommodate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
3. Cancels the first meeting of April. The Council meeting this week has been cancelled.
4. Moves the August 5 meeting to July 29 to accommodate the move of the Council meeting to July 30.
5. No meetings in August.
6. Cancels the first meeting of September. This would normally fall on September 2, which is Labor Day. The Council meeting this week has been cancelled.
