A. Issue
Request by Aspen Homes, Inc. for an extended Street Occupancy Permit duration for Storage in the Right of Way for a new home construction at 8024 W. Chestnut Street.
B. Background/Options
A new home is under construction at the vacant lot at 8024 W. Chestnut Street. Aspen Homes is requesting approval for placement of a dumpster on the street for an extended amount of time. A Street Occupancy Permit for Storage in the Right of Way is only valid for 7 days. Construction of a new home requires a large amount of material disposal management. Placement of the dumpster on the small parcel is not an option as it will impede storage and construction activities.
The Public Works Operations Superintendent has reviewed the request and can support locating a dumpster on the street during leaf collection season, but requires removal of the dumpster for the winter snow season. The dumpster can be placed on the street again in the Spring of 2026, after the winter season, and if construction is still underway.
The applicant will be present at the Board meeting to answer any questions.
C. Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)
Priority Area One: Economic Development and Financial Resilience
D. Fiscal Impact
No impact to the City of Wauwatosa.
E. Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of an extended Street Occupancy Permit duration for Storage in the Right of Way at 8024 W. Chestnut Street. Removal dates will be coordinated between the applicant and the Public Works Department this year based on weather conditions.
