Resolution approving a memorandum of understanding for mutual aid and fire suppression services with the State of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR)

WHEREAS, the City of Wauwatosa Fire Department is responsible for providing fire protection and emergency response services, including response to brush and wildland fires within its jurisdiction; and

 

WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has requested that Milwaukee County fire departments enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance coordination and resource sharing for wildland fire suppression; and

 

WHEREAS, the proposed MOU provides for DNR notification and participation in third-alarm wildland fire incidents, including integration into the incident command structure to support response operations; and

 

WHEREAS, the MOU allows for potential reimbursement to the City for fire suppression activities occurring on State-owned lands within the City, including areas such as the Forest Exploration Center; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department recommends approval of the MOU as a means to enhance service capabilities, interagency coordination, and operational readiness;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Wauwatosa that City staff are hereby authorized to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for mutual aid and wildland fire suppression services; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City staff are authorized to take all necessary and appropriate actions to implement the terms of the agreement.
