Recommendation from the Board of Parks and Forestry Commissioners to name the new City park at 116th Street & Gilbert Avenue Firefly Grove Park

A. Issue
As construction on the new City park at 116th Street and Gilbert Avenue continues a name for the park is needed as communications with the public increase.
B. Background/Options
The City is in the process of constructing a new City park at the southeast corner of 116th Street and Gilbert Avenue. This park, which is being constructed through the use of grant funding, has yet to be named. In an effort to assist the Board of Park and Forestry Commissioners with creation of a name the City’s Tourism Commission utilized a marketing agency they have under contract to suggest three names for the Board’s consideration. The following names were suggested to the Board:
• Firefly Grove
• Wauwatosa Woods
• Westwood Park
After discussing the suggested names as well as other options the Board is recommending that the Common Council name the park “Firefly Grove Park”.

The Board of Parks and Forestry Commissioners recommends naming the new City park at 116th Street & Gilbert Avenue “Firefly Grove Park”.
