A.                     Issue

As construction on the new City park at 116th Street and Gilbert Avenue continues a name for the park is needed as communications with the public increase.

B.                     Background/Options

The City is in the process of constructing a new City park at the southeast corner of 116th Street and Gilbert Avenue.  This park, which is being constructed through the use of grant funding, has yet to be named.  In an effort to assist the Board of Park and Forestry Commissioners with creation of a name the City’s Tourism Commission utilized a marketing agency they have under contract to suggest three names for the Board’s consideration.  The following names were suggested to the Board:

                     Firefly Grove

                     Wauwatosa Woods

                     Westwood Park

After discussing the suggested names as well as other options the Board is recommending that the Common Council name the park “Firefly Grove Park”.

C.                     Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)

Priority Area Five: Quality of Life

D.                     Fiscal Impact

None.

E.                     Recommendation

The Board of Parks and Forestry Commissioners recommends naming the new City park at 116th Street & Gilbert Avenue “Firefly Grove Park”.
