A. Issue
Various Year 2025 bridge, utility, and pavement projects provide an opportunity for enhanced bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and safety
B. Background/Options
Several projects are planned to commence along Wisconsin Avenue in the Year 2025.
* Reconstruction of the Wisconsin Avenue bridge over Honey Creek.
* Reconstruction of the Wisconsin Avenue & Honey Creek Parkway intersection, including installation of traffic signals.
* Water and sewer construction under Wisconsin Avenue from 68th Street to 72nd Street, including associated pavement-related work.
* Reconstruction of the traffic signals at Wisconsin Avenue & 68th Street and Wisconsin Avenue & 70th Street.
The City's Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan calls for bicycle lanes along Wisconsin Avenue from Mayfair Road to the East City Limit. In addition, including bicycle lanes meets with the intentions of the Tosa Streets ordinance (WMC 12.10).
Wisconsin Avenue is 40-feet wide from face of curb to face of curb. Engineering proposes the following cross-section along Wisconsin Avenue from Glenview Avenue to 68th upon completion of the Year 2025 projects:
* 8-foot westbound parking lane (north side of the street)
* 5-foot westbound bicycle lane
* 11-foot westbound travel lane
* 11-foot eastbound travel lane
* 5-foot eastbound bicycle lane (south side of the street)
The westbound parking lane direction (north side of the street) will be preserved so that motorists have a place to pull over in case of a westbound emergency vehicle headed for MRMC. In addition, curb extensions may be constructed on the n...
