By passing this, it gives us another feather in our cap showing we believe Wauwatosa to be diverse, inclusive and welcoming to all.

C.                     Fiscal Impact

None

D.                     Requested Action

Adopt this proposed ordinance.

E.                     Attachments

Attached below is the proposed ordinance language-

A.                     Consistent with the State of Wisconsin’s Fair Employment Law, contained in Sections 111.31 to 111.395 of the Wisconsin Statutes, the City of Wauwatosa prohibits discrimination in employment on the bases of race (including hair texture and protective hairstyles), color, creed, ancestry, national origin, sex or gender, disability, arrest or conviction record, marital status, sexual orientation, military service, or use or non-use of lawful products off the employer’s premises during nonworking hours. In addition, consistent with Section 106.52 of the Wisconsin Statutes, the City of Wauwatosa prohibits discrimination in public places of accommodation or amusement.

B.                     The City of Wauwatosa encourages anyone who believes that they have been discriminated against in violation of the State of Wisconsin prohibitions on discrimination stated in Section A above to file a formal complaint with the State of Wisconsin Equal Rights Division, which has the responsibility under the Wisconsin Statutes to enforce those prohibitions. Instructions on how to file such a complaint are available on the City's website.
