A. Issue
The planned design for the Year 2024 Alley Reconstruction project includes building two new permanent accessible parking spots along N 124th St between Burleigh St and Chambers St.

B. Background/Options
The Year 2024 Alley Reconstruction project includes the alley from N 124th St to N 122nd St., Burleigh St to Chambers St.

During construction of the alley, the multi-family apartment building at address 3030 N 124th St will not have access to their parking lot at the rear of the building. This parking lot includes two handicap accessible parking places. In order to mitigate the building's need for accessible parking during construction, the planned design includes building two new permanent accessible parking spots along N 124th St in the front of the building. The Special Provisions for the contract state that the construction of the accessible parking is required to be complete prior to any alley work begin.
Engineering Division strives for complete streets on all of its projects and this would be a permanent asset for the City. Parking is currently allowed on the east side of N 124th St from 200 ft south of Burleigh St to Chambers St.

C. Strategic Plan (Area of Focus)
Priority 2: Public Safety, Goal 2. Proactively address pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular safety.

D. Fiscal Impact
Costs associated with parking improvements will be covered by the Year 2024 Alley Reconstruction project.

E. Recommendation
